After a six-week-long renovation, Violet Oon's Kitchen will open its doors on 20 June to unveil a new space fronted by a new name — Violet Oon Singapore. And what a difference six weeks can make. The laid-back stylings of the previous interior have been replaced with an elegant dining hall complete with hundreds of Nyonya tiles and gold-trimmed woodwork. The restaurant's new home also features a culinary show kitchen that doubles up as a private dining space for 12.
Foodwise, the menu departs from mod-Peranakan territory to pay homage to traditional Nyonya dishes and local favourites. While such signature dishes as the dry laksa and dry mee siam remain, the expanded menu features new offerings ranging from Sio Bak Kiam Chye soup to Daging Chabek beef cheek, an Indonesian Peranakan dish of twice-cooked beef. You can also look forward to tasting dishes prepared according to time-honoured family recipes from Violet Oon's cookbooks.
