All aboard new beginnings

Brace yourselves, we're cutting real close to the end of the year. That means ringing in the holidays and jet-setting off to an exciting new destination. Hard-pressed for time? Thank God for short-haul respites which are easily attainable, especially since SilkAir has recently welcomed its new aircraft —  the Boeing 737 MAX 8.

Like most milestones, the new plane exemplifies expansion as well as paving a new phase of growth for the regional wing of the Singapore Airlines brand. Travellers can look forward to stepping into a refreshed cabin look and ambience, with sleek sculpted sidewalls as well as LED lights on the ceiling to create an elevated sense of spaciousness.

The new seat configuration comprises of 12 Business Class seats as well as 144 Economy Class seats. The latter seats are equipped with tablets and phone holders, and are accompanied by in-seat USB charging ports for optimum convenience. With these new enhancements in place, travellers can enjoy SilkAir's signature inflight entertainment service, SilkAir studio, via its seat-back tablet.

Those in Business Class won't just be able to enjoy more legroom and as well as an increase in seat recline, but also the luxury of sipping on a freshly-brewed cappuccino from Silkair's illycaffè machine. After all, it's the simple things like a proper cup of coffee that can make all the difference in the world.

Unveiling the first of many new destinations, SilkAir will be flying directly to Hiroshima, making it the first Japanese destination to be added to its network, as well as the first non-stop service between Hiroshima and Singapore. What's even cooler? On this new route, you can tuck into delicious Japanese cuisine like chicken curry don and Omu rice.

The brand-new Boeing 737 Max 8 truly marks the start of something new, and heightens the sense that there's more to be expected. Longer-haul destinations including Cairns, Darwin, Kathmandu, and Bangalore will soon be announced. Enough said, our passports and (self-proclaimed) leaves dates are already on standby.
