As the month of August draws near, brace yourself for the onslaught of more SG50-inspired collaborations. While some collaborations are little more than mere afterthoughts, Rimowa's take on the golden jubilee celebrations taps on local talent to showcase an explosion of creativity that's as unique as it comes.
Using the brand's iconic Topas Multiwheel luggage as a canvas, Rimowa invited 12 local designers and personalities to transform each luggage according to their own creative vision. While some, such as multidisciplinary artist Dee Chia and coffee purveyor Leon Foo, skinned their luggage with quintessential local icons the likes of kopi-o and Peranakan shophouses, others such as tailor and designer Kevin Seah took a more subtle approach. Instead of working on the façade of the suitcase, Seah chose to focus on the interior by layering it with an inner lining of a 19th century print of old Singapore. The luggage straps also see a stylish update with handcrafted brown leather straps accented with red ends.
Curious to take a look at the creations up-close? Head down to Rimowa's Mandarin Gallery store from now till 30 July where the luggage will be on display. If you take a fancy to any one of them, you could bring home these one-of-a-kind creations at S$5,000 a pop. All proceeds from the sale will go towards charity organisation Mercy Relief.
