The humble açaí berry has come a long way from its palm-tree backed abode in the Amazon rainforest. Today, no self-respecting Lululemon-wearing New Age yogi can go a week without getting their açaí bowl fix. After all, this tiny little fruit sits alongside superfoods the likes of chia seeds, matcha, and kale, proving its worth with a cocktail of antioxidants along with omegas 3, 6 and 9.
The best way to enjoy the açaí berry? In an açaí bowl of course, one chock-full of granola, fresh fruits, and blueberries. Over at Project açaí, they elevate their açaí bowl further with a showering of such virtuous ingredients as cacao nibs, bee pollen, coconut shavings, and chia seeds. It's a guilt-free indulgence even the calorie-watchers can get behind.
From 19 to 20 March, $1 from the sale of each medium açaí bowl at Project Açaí will go towards a greater cause other than your weekly superfood binge. It might seem like the world has forgotten about the devastating earthquakes that struck Nepal last year, but with #BuroGivesBack, we hope to cast the spotlight on a country that is still in the process of rebuilding itself. In this instance, every dollar goes a long way towards helping to raise funds for Nepali NGO, Children & Youth First, to build an IT classroom for underprivileged children in Kathmandu. It is here that the children will get the chance to expand their education and e-learning opportunities — daily risings that we often take for granted here.
Every little bit counts and we would love to see these açaí bowls flying off the shelves. But if you're unable to grab a bowl this weekend, join us for our #BuroGivesBack fundraising event taking place on 24 March at the Buro Pop-up Store. Alternatively, you can also make an online donation at our fundraising site here. Forget Netflix and chill. This weekend's all about indulging your gluttony — all in name of a good cause.
