Following the launch of their first-ever hotel The Katamama, Jakarta-based PTT Family is set to plant their flag in Hong Kong this June with a 8,000-square-feet space that lets you shop, dine, and soak up the cultural beats this vibrant city has to offer. Interestingly enough, they've dodged the saturated entertainment hotbed of SoHo and Lan Kwai Fong, choosing to set up camp at the Sai Ying Pun district — home to Hong Kong's new wave hipsters.
Tokyo-based architect Sou Fujimoto has been called upon to dream up this urban space, weaving his signature metal frame structures with traditional Indonesian motifs that dress the hand-painted ceiling panels made by Torajan craftsmen of South Sulawesi.
The proudly Indonesian touches extend to the dining offerings, too. An all-day cafe and bar serves up light bites and cocktails grounded in Balinese flavours while Kaum, an elegant restaurant helmed by Chef Antoine Audran, showcases traditional cooking techniques from Indonesia's ethnic tribes.
With a full-fledged boutique and The Music Room — rigged up for aural pleasures of the vinyl variety — on site, it's easy to linger on for the entire day.
