If you haven't updated your Instagram app for awhile, Instagram's newly introduced feature will give you good reason to do so. Instagram might be all about framing your world through a square — no doubt a digital throwback to the glory days of the Polaroid — but it is now embracing landscape and portrait formats on its feed.
It's a long overdue update, especially for Instagrammers who have been using third-party apps such as Whitagram to publish landscape and portrait photos as well as videos. As revealed by Instagram on their blog, "nearly one in five photos or videos people post aren’t in the square format".
When you're choosing a photo or video to upload from your gallery, simply tap on the format icon to toggle between the square, portrait, and landscape formats. It might be hip to be square, but nothing beats the cinematic quality that landscape and portrait photos bring to the table.
