Get to know the remedies for stress, muscle aches, and dull skin
We're only into the second month of the year but the Buro 24/7 Singapore team is already chugging ahead at full steam. We're running a digital co-working project with The Co. on 99 Duxton Road, broadcasting twice a week with #BuroLive, and bringing you all the news you need to know about Singapore and beyond. It's no wonder our minds and bodies could do with a little TLC. To that end, we've turned to Karu Nanithi, spa director over at Grand Hyatt Singapore's Damai Spa, to study what ails us and prescribe the appropriate treatments to diminish our woes.
Renée Batchelor, beauty editor
Areas of concern: Very tense neck, shoulders, upper back and knee. In need of a relaxing yet rejuvenating treatment.
Karu recommends: A 90-minute deep muscle massage with hot stones from the ESPA treatment collection.
Why this treatment works: This is a powerful, deep massage designed to alleviate deep-seated tension and muscular stress in targeted areas. We'll utilise specialised techniques to concentrate on Renée's areas of concern while easing common discomforts such as stiff neck, lower back pains, and tight shoulders. Deep massage and muscle manipulation, stretching and trigger-point techniques, and hot stones will be applied to treat deep-seated tension by warming, stimulating and stretching the muscles.
Adibah Isa, culture editor
Areas of concern: Smooth, combination skin that's occasionally disrupted by little bumps and blemishes. Is it too much to ask for radiant, glowing skin?
Karu recommends: A 60-minute Lifestage facial from the ESPA treatment collection.
Why this treatment works: A targeted and rejuvenating facial, this treatment addresses the most visible signs of ageing, specifically focusing on the eye, neck, lips and jaw line. Incorporating special age-defying massage techniques and a technologically-advanced Lifestage product range, this luxurious facial will combat fine lines and immediately improve hydration levels while helping to reduce the appearance of pigmentation, large pores and redness on Adibah's skin. A mask will also be applied to firm the skin and stimulate elasticity — leaving the complexion smooth and radiant.
Denise Kok, senior lifestyle editor
Areas of concern: Tense muscles in the neck and shoulders from working long hours on a laptop. In need of a calming, restorative time-out.
Karu recommends: A 90-minute personalised massage from the ESPA treatment collection.
Why this treatments works: The ESPA personalised massage is a holistic body treatment with a tailored massage experience — down to the specific oil applied on your body. A combination of Swedish, aromatherapy, and deep muscle massage techniques will help to ease the tense muscles in Denise's neck and shoulders. Hot stones — which we're using for Renee's treatment — might also be used to target areas of deep-seated tension. As this is a tailored treatment, it is good for many situations including insomnia, anxiety, muscle fatigue, aches, and pains. The soothing, relaxing treatment will help to calm her down.
