A look inside Singapore's most exclusive health and fitness club
The laws of Gravity
It is slightly disorienting to step into the lounge at Gravity. With its elegant marble walls, muted palette of monotones accented with dark wood, and browsing copies of Singapore Tatler at the ready, this could very well be a First Class airline lounge in Zurich. But here I am, on the 38th floor of the CapitaGreen tower right in the heart of the Central Business District. Right from the get-go, Gravity has been designed with the C-suite executive in mind. After all, with a joining fee of $3,000 and monthly membership fee of $599 (more than thrice the going rate at other gyms), it's unlikely anyone else will sign up for the experience. Even if you have the dough to spare, membership for this exclusive health and fitness club is by invitation only — and capped at 999. Here's what you can expect if you're amongst the select few.
1. A thorough assessment of your health
Before the personal training sessions even begin, a doctor reviews your medical history and conducts an onsite blood analysis to assess your state of health. Your limitations are also highlighted via the Functional Movement Screen, a process that takes no more than 30 minutes to pinpoint such specific ailments as a cranky knee. To track your progress down to the last centimetre, a 3D body scan captures your entire profile — perfect for before-and-after comparisons down the road. This holistic approach to wellness helps the club's trainers to determine an exercise programme tailored to achieve your fitness goals.
2. State-of-the-art equipment
A sleek cycling studio for spin classes, cardio and strength equipment, and a dedicated functional training zone are but some of the tools available to help you get into shape. An outdoor temperature-controlled swimming pool and yoga deck come back-dropped with sweeping views of the Central Business District.
3. Personalised supplements
Chances are you're not getting the nutrients you need from your daily diet. Gravity's bespoke vitamin programme (dubbed 'Gravity Next-Vits') provides you with a cocktail of micro-nutrients to keep you in top form. No two bottles are the same as they are tailored for each member and comes with your name on the label.
4. Creature comforts
When it comes to amenities, it's the little details that make all the different. USB ports within your locker let you to charge up your devices while you break a sweat. Ladies will also appreciate the well-lit vanity counters so you don't head out into the world with your makeup askew. Shirt pressing services — which should really be mandatory service at all gyms — add a nice little touch. After your workout, choose from an array of slow pressed organic juices and healthful smoothies.
5. An in-house spa
Yes, there's a steam room scented with an invigorating shot of eucalyptus, but the spa truly takes the cake. Think your muscles deserve a rub-down after that gruelling HITT session? Massage therapy awaits. While you're at in, why not enjoy a relaxing facial as well?
