The good folk at Zespri have been keeping busy this year. Back in June, they brought us our city's first morning workout party and flew in LA-based fitness instructor Chelsey Korus to lead us in a sunrise yoga session. Now, they've teamed up with Singaporean food doyenne Violet Oon of Violet Oon Singapore to present a slew of kiwifruit recipes that will give you a much needed boost of vitamin C.
Looking for something sweet and tangy to drizzle over your waffles? Try your hand at this kiwifruit sauce given a local twist with a shot of gula melaka. It's perfect with waffles, pancakes, and crepes, but equally delicious when stirred into porridge or oats.
Here's what you need
4 Zespri green kiwifruits, peeled and sliced into cubes
70g gula melaka
2 tbsp orange juice
Pinch of cinnamon powder
Pinch of clove powder
Pinch of nutmeg powder
1-2 tsp juice of calamansi limes
1 Zespri green kiwifruit, sliced (for garnishing)
How to make it
1. Heat a small frying pan and melt the butter and gula melaka. When the butter and gula melaka is well combined, add the diced Zespri green kiwifruit and sauté for about 30 seconds.
2. Add the orange juice to moisten the sauce before throwing in the cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg powder. When the sauce thickens, pour calamansi lime juice over the mixture. Turn off the heat and allow the sauce to cool.
3. Spoon the sauce and kiwifruit over your waffles. Garnish with freshly sliced kiwifruit.
