New menu offerings to try at Lime House
Rihanna and Nicki Minaj are not the only things the Caribbean islands are known for. Bringing a slice of the eclectic food heaven to Singapore is the Lime House. Located at Jiak Chuan road, the four-storey shop house is the place to be for social gatherings, good vibes and authentic Caribbean cuisine. Forget ordering small individual portions when you head to the lively hangout. Instead, share in the Caribbean philosophy of liming, where you share hearty communal dishes as you enjoy the company of friends.
The unique menu takes its inspiration from the mix of cultures found around the Caribbean islands. Take, for example, the oxtail dumpling. Served with a flavourful broth, the oxtail is a comfort food of the Caribbean reimagined and wrapped in a traditional Asian dumpling skin. This dish, which reminds the owner of home, features a generous portion of oxtail meat that certainly won't stop you from coveting more than one.
The other standouts in their menu include the jerk lamb rack, whole jerk chicken, jerk beef skewers, and beef ribs. Using a special Caribbean cooking technique known as jerking, where the meat is dry rubbed with spices and then grilled, diners will find the meat cooked till crispy on the outside but tender and juicy on the inside.
Reminiscent of the traditional satay, the jerk beef skewers serve up six generous pieces of beef served with a dip. Available in chicken as well, the skewers are certainly an interesting addition to the menu. The whole fish escovitch, featuring a whole grilled fish served with a variety of sides, will no doubt be a favourite for seafood lovers.
The influence of Chinese, Indian, European and Native Amerindian influences are evident in the chef's use of ingredients and cooking methods. The laid-back vibe makes the Lime House a perfect place to gather as you enjoy Mount Gay Rum from Barbados, said to be the finest in the Caribbean. Levels three and four of the building, located above the main restaurant, are two floors that can be reserved for private functions and corporate events.
