The pasta here is handmade and pizza dough is given ample time to rest and rise — telltale signs that Italians run the joint, and they do. Founded by Luca Bottura, a fifth-generation descendent of the Bottura family (yes, he shares blood ties with famed Italian chef Massimo Bottura), the restaurant serves up casual Italian fare at prices that don't break the bank.
Try the excellent four-cheese gnocchi featuring pillowy soft dough dumplings coated with a rich cheese sauce cut through with the peppery notes of rocket leaf pesto. If that whets your appetite for more, call for the pasta degustation menu which lets you graze on six different kinds of pasta for $18.
There's piadina — thin Italian flatbread hailing from the Emilia-Romagna region — to be had too, harbouring ingredients such as house-made stracchino cheese and truffle pâte.
While the menu showcases casual Italian fare, the retail space within the restaurant is stocked with all manner of Italian gourmet produce you'll be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. Don't forget to pick up a bottle of white truffle oil or full-flavoured Oro Divino baslsamic vinegar on your way out.
