Reunion dinners are great fun if you're not the one who has to prepare the feast. Cooking for the family and extended family is laborious to say the least, but enjoying a feast at home is a considerably more leisurely affair than shuffling through multiple-seatings at a Chinese restaurant. Here's where we turn to Violet Oon Singapore's party trays. While the restaurant's iconic Peranakan dishes will be available for order, they've also introduced new party tray dishes specially for the festive season. These include Golden Hakka Abacus Beads, a mix of dried cutlet fish, minced pork, hae bee (dried shrimp), and handmade sweet potato dumplings; Rebung Masak Lemak, chicken stewed in spiced coconut gravy; and Babi Chin, braised pork served with spicy and tangy pineaple sambal. We suggest ordering a tray of their famed Dry Laksa as well, which sees rice noodles tossed in a punchy, aromatic laksa pesto, topped with lots of prawns (thoughtfully deshelled) and tau pok (dried beancurd puffs).
