When was the last time you bit into a really good tart? Some of the best we've devoured of late are from Tarte by Cheryl Koh, a tiny pâtisserie sandwiched between Caveau and La Strada on Scotts Road. With Les Amis pastry chef Cheryl Koh at the helm, this outfit is small but undoubtedly mighty. Her haute dessert leanings show in her attention to ingredients, where only the finest such as French gariguette strawberries or Piedmont hazelnuts make the cut. The result is artful tarts that impress not with hollow bells and whistles, but genuine substance and flair.
Expect to find an array of 10 flavours to choose from, ranging from fruit-based tarts to indulgent chocolate-heavy creations spun from Cacao Barry chocolate, no less.
Carolines, otherwise known as mini éclairs, are also available at the outlet in such flavours as rose, earl grey, and dark chocolate — dangerously useful for sating bite-sized cravings.
Speaking about her inspiration behind Tarte, Koh says, "I want guests to enjoy the tarts as I would serve them at the restaurant: freshly made with good ingredients and best fruits of the season, like French gariguette strawberries or Indian Alphonso mangoes in April to May. I focus on tarts and carolines because of the great combination of pastry, flavours, colours and textures."
