The Capitol has been abuzz with activity. Parisian tea salon Angelina continues to draw snaking lines from curious diners eager to taste their signature hot chocolate — arguably the best in the world — while the newly revamped Capitol Theatre plays host to evenings of high drama and song.
An ultra-luxurious hotel has also moved into the space that has of late played witness to a sense of great renewal. Spread across the elegantly renovated 1933 Capitol Building and 1904 Stamford House is The Patina, Capitol Singapore, which unlike its name suggests, shows no sign of age.
Housing 157 rooms and suites, the hotel sees plenty of big names bringing its interiors to life. Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureate Richard Meier has given the historic buildings an impressive facelift while the late Jaya Ibrahim lent his eye to the room décor.
Expect to find Aesop amenities, coffee table books from Assouline, and two complimentary iPads waiting for you in your room. Also notable is the hotel's ability to accompany guests to their rooms for direct check-ins — a service that extends to all guests, and not just those staying in the suites.
Feeling peckish? Chocolate atelier PURE & Co. is on site to sate your sweet tooth while Peruvian master Pedro Miguel Schiaffino helms a restaurant and bar where you can linger for a long, languid meal.
