3 couples, 3 weddings, 3 ways to say "I do"
From serving up potent lychee martinis to swapping out fresh flowers for dried ones, we draw inspiration from three couples who celebrated in style

There's one way to say "I do", but many ways to celebrate the moment. In Singapore, the wedding banquet is almost a de facto part of getting hitched. Below, we take a look at three couples who held their weddings in the same hotel — Grand Hyatt Singapore — while making the occasion entirely their own with little touches reflecting their journey as a couple.

Nicole Wong & Clinton Leicester

How did you meet your significant other? We met at Lasalle College of the Arts as school mates. We started dating since we were 17/18 and decided to tie the knot after 10 years.

When you were growing up, what did your dream wedding look like?

I was never one to fantasize about weddings. In fact, I never thought I would actually hold one, so having the chance to experience it was a joy.

The company:
We celebrated with 250 guests across 25 tables.

The ballroom:
Grand Ballroon at the Grand Hyatt Singapore. It had wonderfully tall ceilings and an extended digital canvas.

Setting the scene: I wanted the table set-up to reflect who we are as a couple. Each table was decorated with candles, dried flowers by florist Kokoro, and a gold frame stating the table number. While most couples opt for fresh flowers, having dried flowers at our wedding bore a special significance for us. Clinton loves having fresh flowers at home while I love collecting dried flowers — so I usually salvage and dry the flowers he receives.

Mandy from Grand Hyatt Singapore was an angel. She helped us through this insane process and planned everything in less than three months. She made everything painless and fuss-free — which I feel is the most important thing a hotel could do. While we didn't plan to have a backdrop for our stage, Mandy surprised us with a cosmic wall projection which made everything quite magical.

The booze: We chose to have our wedding at Grand Hyatt Singapore as their wedding packages come with many perks on the alcohol front.

The food:
My brother and cousin held their weddings at Grand Hyatt Singapore and I remembed enjoying the food there. There is a saying that what people remember most about a wedding is the food, and the hotel truly didn't disappoint. We wanted our dishes to be individually plated while serving a Chinese menu and the hotel was very accommodating to our needs. They even customised a chocolate dessert for our guests as I have a weakness for anything chocolate. Our guests who had vegetarian and halal dietary requirements were also well taken care off.

What he wore:
Suits from Kay-Jen Dylan.

What she wore:
I wore a rental gown from Jules Elie and changed into a Kay-Jen Dylan suit for the second walk-in.

Wedding favours: As we couldn't decide on macarons or fruit cakes, our guests walked away with both.

What was your most memorable moment from the event?

Walking down the aisle, pass friends who are pretty much family to us. Clinton and myself have been together for a decade and we now share many mutual friends and schoolmates. Over time, we have truly see each other grow and the wedding is not only a celebration of the both of us, but all the friendships we've forged along the way.

After the wedding
: Our friends came to hang out in the room with us and stayed until it was late. The next day, we took it easy, lounged in our room, and called for room service.

We spent our honeymoon in:
We have special honeymoon nights at various Grand Hyatt hotels around the world and we plan to spend it either on a road trip to Europe or a long weekend in the Maldives. This perk is certainly a key highlight of the wedding package and are looking forward to utilising it.

Su Huijun and Kevin Lee

How did you meet your significant other? We were introduced by mutual friends at a dinner. We dated for about three years before getting married.

When you were growing up, what did your dream wedding look like?

We didn't really have a dream wedding, but having attended many weddings, we knew we definitely wanted something simple and relaxed.

The company:
We had a cozy mix of 150 guests, mostly family and close friends. We sat them across eight long tables.

The ballroom:
We were in the Grand Residence, a smaller ballroom in the Grand Hyatt Singapore which allowed us to entertain a smaller group of guests.

Setting the scene: The colour palette for the wedding was lavender and blush. As the ballroom already had colour-changing lattice walls, we made use of that to brighten up the place. For table set-up, we opted for a clean and simple look with baby's breath of different-sized vases. We also used some flowers from our church wedding to set the VIP tables. We like the long-table arrangement as it made the ballroom much more spacious and allowed us to walk freely and interact with our friends easily. Our guests were also not limited to just their table of guests.

The booze:
We opted for the Martini Bar Experience for pre-wedding cocktails, which everyone enjoyed. The wedding package also included free-flow beer and a bottle of Cloudy Bay wine for every 10 guests. We brought in our own red wine and whiskies and the hotel was generous enough to waive off corkage.

The food: We had a customised seven-course Chinese menu, something different from the regular offerings. Our guests raved about the quality of food. Some of our favourites were the pan-seared cod fish, steamed lobster, slow-cooked Kurobuta pork belly rice, and dessert of bird's nest and chilled almond cream. We had welcome canapés and our guests with halal and vegetarian dietary requirements enjoyed their specially-prepared dinner.

What he wore:
A two-piece navy blue checkered suit tailored in Bangkok, shirt tailored in Singapore, Zegna tie, and shoes from Ed Et Al.

What she wore:
Gown from bridal boutique 520 Library.

The playlist:
We had a live band, MXGX, who sang a mix of indie pop and folk. They helped to lighten the mood, keeping everyone relaxed. We really enjoyed the live music.

The photographer:
Nigel Lim shot our wedding and the photo below is truly one of our favourite photos from our wedding. We burst out in laughter after the unveiling and he captured our joy in the moment where we finally became man and wife.

Wedding favours: The hotel provided macarons and chocolate pralines. We also had a photobooth from Fourstops for guests to have fun with and take photographic memories back with them after.

What was your most memorable moment from the event?
Watching and laughing at our wedding highlights video from the morning before our march-in. We didn't know what to expect but we were glad that RekordHaus did a great job capturing our best moments on camera.

After the wedding
: We had a two-nights stay in the hotel to recover from everything. We enjoyed room service throughout.

We spent our honeymoon in:
New Zealand. We were given hotel-stay points as part of the package so we will be using the free honeymoon nights at the Grand Hyatt Bali.

Timothy and Adeline

How did you meet your significant other? We met at church and dated for about a year.

When you were growing up, what did your dream wedding look like?

A classy, grand, and elegant celebration with family and friends.

The company:
For our wedding, we celebrated with 250 guests across 25 tables.

The ballroom:
The Grand Salon at Grand Hyatt Singapore, which came with a bridal changing room and a show kitchen.

Setting the scene:
We wanted something simple, elegant, and cosy. We chose the floral arrangement of purple roses, pink hydrangeas and candles along the aisle. The same floral theme extended to tall vases for the stage and table centerpieces. We also customised our table set-up with our choice of floral centerpieces, table linens, show plates, and napkin holders.

The booze: We had a choice of three wedding perks for our wedding and we chose to go for free-flow beer, one bottle of house wine per table, and a complimentary one-night stay in the Grand Deluxe room for our helpers. For the red wine, we chose the Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra, Australia, and Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand for the white wine.

The food:
We rolled out seven-courses for our lunch celebration and customised the menu according to our preference, which the hotel kindly accommodated. Three out of the seven courses were served communal style, while the other four were served as individual portions. Highlights of the menu include braised whole abalone with mushroom and broccoli served in a special claypot for each guest, and kurobuta pork with lotus leaf glutinous rice. Guests enjoyed a complimentary flow of orange and guava juices, lychee iced tea and pink lemonade, in addition to the quality wines and beer. We received many compliments on the quality and generous portions of the food. In addition, we ordered a couple of halal-friendly meals and they were very well received by our guests.

What he wore:
Two suits — a black and white suit with a black bow tie to match the white wedding dress, and a silver suit with a navy blue shirt and dark grey bow tie to match the evening gown for our second march-in.

What she wore:
A white wedding ball gown dress with a fitted lace bodice and sheer veil neckline and back. The evening gown was a navy blue sleeveless lace top with the overlays of the gown in different tones of blue and glitter.

The playlist:
We engaged a two-piece band, Shili and Adi, for our wedding. They played bossa nova tunes and contemporary music, and took song dedication requests during the lunch as well. The band also played the music for our two march-ins.

The photographer:
Our photographer friend took our photos for us.
