I know what you're thinking: Norman, it's always summer here in Singapore. Exactly. Which is why you need to get up to speed with the upcoming spring/summer 2017 drop.

Scheduled to be hitting stores post-Christmas, these are the key menswear trends from the European runway shows — sifted, curated, and hand-picked by yours truly — to keep you looking fresh on the streets, and just as important in our humid climate, fresh under the collar.

So whether you're a dangerous man with some money in your pocket, or just getting frisky in the backseat of a Rover (that you can't afford), get the jump on the best of menswear for 2017. One step ahead. Naturally.

1. CAMP-COLLAR SHIRTS FOR THE HUSTLERS

What to wear now — SS17 menswear trend report: camp collar shirts

Wear it to: Tanjong Beach Club when smooth-talking Russian models or MAVRX when getting your daily caffeine hit.

Wear it with: Flat-front tailored trousers to counterbalance it's inherent casual edge, or over a striped long-sleeve tee if you're braving that Arctic shopping mall AC.

2. BRING THE MIAMI HEAT WITH ALL-WHITE EVERYTHING

What to wear now — SS17 menswear trend report: All-white

Wear it to: Just about anywhere except hawker centres. Everyone brings tissues to lunch, but those tissues aren't been used to wipe down those greasy Char Kuey Teow stained tables. Trust me.

Wear it with: All-white everything. Obv. Easy, breezy and ballsy. Mirrored shades for extra brownie points.

3. HANG LOOSE WITH LOUCHE TROUSERS

What to wear now — SS17 menswear trend report: Large loose trousers

Wear it to: Art exhibitions, gallery openings, and designer showcases. Your fashion and design friends will notice that you're devastatingly on trend, and to show you that they're also on point, will probably ask: "Is that Balenciaga by Demna?" Of course it is, but be cavalier and reply with, "Is it? I just like the way it fits."

Wear it with: Well-fitted tops tucked into trousers and cinched with a thin leather belt. Why fitted tops? To highlight the exaggerated proportions of your loose trousers and to show off your guns. You have been working out, right?

4. AMP IT UP WITH CANARY YELLOW

What to wear now — SS17 menswear trend report: sunshine yellow

Wear it to: Late night drinks along Ann Siang Road or casual catch-ups at Lucha Loco on Duxton Hill (Yaaasss, love me some Mexican).

Wear it with: Crew-neck white tees and skinny black jeans to let the yellow take centre stage. Contrary to popular belief, yellow does go with yellow (skin). Especially canary yellow which brightens and invigorates, rather than washing out your Oriental complexion. Have dark skin? Pile on the colour.

5. BELTED FIELD JACKETS FOR THE WIN

What to wear now — SS17 menswear trend report: belted field jackets patch pockets

Wear it to: The office on casual Fridays, date night with the missus, onboard a flight to Tokyo. The Japanese know a thing or three about casual elegance, so show them you're up to speed with this versatile jacket. Hands down, my must-buy item for spring/summer 2017.

Wear it with: A white button-down and thin dark tie for the dapper dude; thrown over a beat-up vintage band tee for the fuss-free chap; or paired with a camp-collar shirt (see above) for guys who want to layer like a player.

6. LET IT RIP WITH AN EXTRA-LONG STATEMENT COAT

What to wear now — SS17 menswear trend report: Statement coats

Wear it to: Melbourne on your cafe-hopping adventures; Paris when dropping some coin in the Marais; or San Francisco to battle that incessant fog, Karl. Staying in Singapore? Whip it out when stomping around MBS — those long shopping avenues are perfect for letting your coat billow and bluster in that oh-so-crisp conditioned air.

Wear it with: Tees, tank-tops or turtlenecks. Whatever the clime, and wherever you are, the main styling tip is to leave it open and let it rip. It's all about the drama.

7. REAL MEN WEAR MILITARY

What to wear now — SS17 menswear trend report: military

Wear it to: Film festivals, theatre premieres and, basically, anywhere where there's a red carpet. There's something resolutely masculine and attractive about a man wearing military. Strong, confident, and camera-fodder.

Wear it with: A pressed white shirt, a plain long-sleeve pullover, or classic T-shirt. Less is definitely more with all that regalia and rope-detailing. Want to dial it up? Finish it off with some 24 karat magic in the aaaaair...
