Don't you hate it when trend reports talk about how fur is all the rage on the fall/winter 2017 runways (which it definitely is) but it's another blazing hot day in Singapore? How are you going to rock a Yeti-style shearling coat when the humidity is peaking at 95%? And, worst of all, what if it rains?
I feel you. I get it. I mean, I'll still wear a trench coat when it's monsoonal (gabardine cotton is really not that warm people) but otherwise, Singapore is more suited for shorts and a T-shirt rather than jeans and a leather biker jacket (though, catch a movie with me and I'll be whipping mine out stat). But as lovers of all things fa-shun, we want to keep up-to-date; to be inspired by what's happening in Milan and Paris and infuse the latest trends into our wardrobes. So, having just recovered from fashion week jet-lag, here are my five favourite wearable trends for fall/winter 2017 — that is, stuff you can actually pull off in Singapore.
1. FIRE ENGINE RED TO GIVE THEM FEVER
If there was one colour that dominated Milan and Paris fashion week, it was definitely engine red. From TOD'S and Chloé to Max Mara and MSGM, designers are painting the town scarlet come fall/winter 2017. To really give them fever, go all out with a gorgeous flowing tulle dress from Valentino.
2. SEAL THE DEAL IN A POWER SUIT
Already gaining traction on the streets, this trend has the girls powering up in suits — and killing the gents at their own game. The silhouette is rakish and oversized, and styled with the right accessories, it's just as suited for the bar as it is for the boardroom.
3. PRETTY IN PATCHWORK
The beauty lies in the creative combination of two or more different fabrications into one stunning frock. Loving the 'fake layering' created by Jonathan Anderson at Loewe and the blink-and-you-still-won't-miss-it floral brocade gown from Gucci.
4. SLAY ALL DAY IN KILLER BOOTS
Say what? Knee-high or even thigh-high (thanks Fendi) boots for Singapore? Heck yes. You just have to plan your day accordingly — no trekking for miles to the MRT, that's for sure. Consider it an investment. Powerful. Beautiful. #Slay
5. GALACTIC GLITTER
There was a lot of glitter and metallics on the fall/winter 2017 runways (not to mention a healthy dose of lurex) but the unifying theme was space. Outer space, that is: Chanel had a rocket ship in the Grand Palais, Mugler's designs resembled Star Trek, and Maria Grazia Chiuri continued her love affair with galaxy motifs. Either way, there's no better time to dress like you're from out of this world.
