Wear your heart on your statement sleeves: The supersize trend of spring 2017
Favoured on the runways, the sculptural arms are now making their rounds on the streets

If attention-arresting backs were the thing of last season, then statement sleeves are the current style du jour. Although, yes, they’re nothing new — leg-of-mutton poufs can be traced all the way back to the glorious Edwardian age — we can thank J.W. Anderson’s Tudor-influenced dresses to Simone Rocha’s dramatically puffed coats for giving monumental sleeves a new lease of life.

The street style troupe had Russian stylist Anya Ziourova donning a Tibi blouse with ballooning sleeves for New York Fashion Week, and Instagram fashion sage Eva Chen going for Gucci’s varsity sweater with ornamental pleated arms during Milan’s. One thing’s for sure, the in-crowd got the memo: The more epic they are, the better. From airy, ruffled, flared to tiered, scroll down for the best statement sleeves worn off the runway.
