The best street style from New York Fashion Week SS18

#NYFW

As New York City kicks off the spring 2018 womenswear schedule, the style elite come out to play. Stay tuned for daily updates

DAY 8: DOWN TO A T
It is oft time puzzling how even a garment as classic as the T-shirt gets wrapped up in fashion latest trends, but the cotton staple — ideally printed with punchy graphic or a witty slogan — is without a doubt the season's must-have. With labels like Gucci and Balenciaga elevating the humble tee, it's clear that 2017's breed is destined for greater things. By that we mean God forbid it's paired with shorts.

DAY 7: AYE, AYE CAPTAIN
The fashion circle has many names for this one. Some dub it the fisherman's hat, others the conductor's headpiece, but what's for sure is that there's no better time to than now to experiment with headgear. Below, see the fisherman hat score more style points on land than it ever did at sea.

DAY 6: ON THE DOT
Of all the prints that come and go with the seasons, polka dot is by far the trickiest to ace. Thanks to its rich history, a full silhouette will give off major Lucille Ball vibes; a Diane Keaton twinning moment is born the second a belt makes an appearance; paint them in red and no time will seem to have passed since your 5th birthday. Dodge the faux pas using style derivatives from the ladies below.

Combat boots will kick any and all old-fashioned notions back into the history books.

See first tip. Also, remix the '50s signature with accessories from other genres — e.g. Ozzy sunglasses and box bags.

Or sex it up by throwing lace and leather into the equation. Now that, truly never gets old.

DAY 5: BASKET CASE
It's not often that the season's It-bag comes in not buttery soft lambskin but artfully spun wicker, and it was just a matter of time that the basket bag went on to shine at New York Fashion Week. Those dithering on taking the plunge, reference the style tips below.

DAY 4: PUFF DADDY
We've been tracking the steady ascend of statement sleeves, so it's no surprise they're making multiple appearances in this season's show cycle. Fortunately, contrary to the (boring) rationale of proportion play, balloon sleeves aren't downplayed by predictable hiked hems or resorted to streamlined silhouettes. Quite the opposite, in fact. Exemplary execution below.

Net-a-Porter's Lisa Aiken gives us green light to extend our summer fling with ruffles and net bags

In theory, balloon sleeves with florals, mesh and lace sounds like a sartorial nightmare. Being proven wrong has never felt more right

Pulling off this Rejina Pyo dress is quite the feat, what when done so with canary sneakers. Two thumbs up

DAY 3: SINGLE TONE ENSEMBLES
Forget colour-blocking — New York's best knows where the fun's at and it's slaying the single-tone outfit. The colour of choice? One that's trending in the current retail season, fall/winter 2017. Lit.

DAY 1 & 2: THE POWER OF PINK
We needn't champion the allure of pink any more than we already have at this point, but here's what's worth taking note off: Jump in with both feet and stand out in punchy pops of fuchsia — be it through the detailing of your outfit or head-to-toe in oversized suiting. Leave the milder, millennial hues to the majority
