Following Alessandro Sartori’s return to former company Ermenegildo Zegna, Berluti has announced Haider Ackermann as its new creative director, and will be presenting his first collection at Paris Men’s Fashion Week in January 2017. Sartori had previously established a quirky romanticism, perhaps best defined by its signature two-toned luxury footwear. With Ackermann onboard, Berluti is in for an era of change.
Since its conception in 1895, Berluti has been trying to rebrand itself as an upmarket ready-to-wear label. “I am very happy to welcome Haider at Berluti, his talent and creative commitment makes him the perfect choice for this position. I am sure that his vision will bring a unique opportunity to Berluti,” says Antoine Arnault, chief executive officer of Berluti.
Known for his unique take on layers, the Colombian designer is expected to take Berluti down an edgier route. “I am very honored to join Berluti,” Ackermann declared. “This house stands for the essence of luxury menswear and embracing this new adventure inspires me.”
