When news first broke earlier this year that Lemaire would be Uniqlo's next designer tie-up, the announcement had the fashion set on the edge of their seats. For the uninitiated, the designers behind Lemaire are Christophe Lemaire (previously the artistic director at Hermès) and Sarah-Linh Tran, whose collections tickle the fancy of those that adore a well married blend of minimalism and classic basics with a twist.
"Basic is an overused term in fashion, but at the end of the day, it's quite true, quite right. Pieces that you need, pieces that you want – that's what we tried to do," said Lemaire about the collaboration. It is evident that the ethos of both brands fit like long lost pieces of the puzzle, and their coming together in the age-old marriage of the French and Japanese appeals to a wide audience that are familiar with the fine outcome of such a mix.
While basics are usually a need for most, the Lemaire magic definitely transforms those needs into wants – that cream jumper with contrasted vertical and horizontal ribbing had us sold at first sight, and we're now counting down the days till October rolls around.
The collection will be available in stores and online in October.
