Built in 1978 by the architect Antti Lovag, the Palais Bulles sits on a beautiful vantage point just off the south of France. Its futuristic, sculptural exterior and distinctive rose-red walls made Dior creative director Raf Simons fall in love with the place when he visited it five years ago. "I find this architecture exceptional," Simons told WWD. "I find it very young, feminine and playful." The same could be said of his resort 2016 collection with its fresh gingham patterns and metallic fabrics. Simons also revisited the maison's iconic Bar jacket. Putting his own spin on Monsieur Dior's seminal fashion piece, he deconstructed its haughtiness and modernised the look by pairing it with shorts or flip-flops. As the show came to a close (and received by an resounding applause), it was clear that Simons had created pure magic worthy of the visionary estate and surrounds.
