In an unprecedented twist, this year's Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) awarded three winners for its CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards — instead of the usual singular top prize winner flanked by two runner-ups.
The selection committee, of which fashion legends Anna Wintour and Diane von Furstenberg are part of, made this executive decision collectively only hours before the event that was held at New York City's Spring Studios earlier today. Acknowledging womenswear designer Jonathan Simkhai, footwear designer Aurora James of Brother Vellies and streetwear label Gypsy Sport's Rio Uribe to be equal winners of the prestigious endowment of $300,000 each, along with a year's worth of mentoring from the industry's top leaders.
Put together by CFDA and Vogue in support of America's next generation of designers, the illustrious annual award list includes past winners Alexander Wang, Altuzarra and Public School — all of whom have gone on to shake up the fashion scene. We're certainly anticipating what this year's winning trio has in store.
