Inside the Buro Fashion Forward Initiative: The designers, celebrities, and industry leaders
In its third year running, Buro 24/7 held its Buro Fashion Forward Initiative (BFFI) — a project aimed at supporting up-and-coming fashion designers — at The Ritz Paris' Salon Vendôme last night. The event was a platform for seven Eastern European labels to gain exposure in the midst of Paris Fashion week where the world's leading fashion insiders descend.
Showcasing their spring/summer 2017 collections, the participants include: Alexander Terekhov (Russia) who's renowned for his feminine elegance; Djaba Diassamidze (Georgia), a master in creating dramatic evening gowns; Gola Damian (Georgia), transformer of avant garde silhouettes for everyday wear; Julia Kalmanovich (Russia), the minimalist romantic; Outlaw (Russia), winner of SHOWstudio Fashion Film Award by Nick Knight in 2016; Tigran Avetisyan (Russia), LVMH prize nominee; and Vilshenko (Russia), whose eloquent collection recalls Russian traditional costumes.
The collections took a theme of Soviet Constructivism, honouring the leading figures of the trailblazing movement of the 1920s and 1930s — such as Varvara Stepanova and Alexander Rochenko — who have paved the way for the emergence of faster-paced fashion. Our favourites from these collections? Outlaw's selection of street-infused mix medium outerwear and Alexander Terekhov's clean and minimalism aesthetic executed using the most luxurious fabrications.
Tying up with British e-tailer, Farfetch for this year's edition, the selected designers will also create a capsule collection under the guidance of director of purchasing and merchandising, Candice Fredzhis. The capsule will launch on the retailer's site in February 2017.
Hosted by Buro 24/7 founder, Miroslava Duma, the presentation saw support from industry leaders such as Carine Roitfeld, Imran Amed, Yasmin Sewell, Eva Chen, Ellen Von Unwerth, Giovanna Battaglia, Derek Blasberg, Gaia Repossi, Veronika Heilbrunner, Justin O'Shea, and Anna Dello Russo. It was also a star-studded affair with the attendance of Kim and Kourtney Kardashian, Courtney Love, and Frances Bean Cobain joining designers the likes of Nicholas Kirkwood, Mary Katrantzou and Olivier Rousteing. Other guests who graced the event included Karlie Kloss, Vetements CEO Guram Gvasalia, Saudi Arabia Princess Dean Abdulaziz, and Russian models Natalia Vodianova, Irina Shayk, Natasha Poly and Sasha Luss.
