Nicolas Ghesquière is slowly, but surely, transforming the storied house of Louis Vuitton from revered and iconic to revered and iconoclastic.
Inspired by the graphic sweeping curves of the Bob Hope estate in Palm Springs (designed by modernist architect John Lautner), Ghesquière picked up on the cool Southern Californian gestalt and delivered a cruise 2016 women's collection centered around five themes: Leather Heritage, Hollywood Glamour, Colourama, Charismatic Femininity and Desert Road Trip. But here's the rub: All the long and languid maxi dresses and skirts were paired with flat-soled shoes. Whether it was a pair of kick-ass desert boots or sandals lined with the diamond-shape malletage detailing found inside the maison's famed trunks, there wasn't a heel in sight. Things are a-changing at Vuitton, and for the better.
From the Petite Malle in transparent plexiglass to an exclusive preview of the new gold jewellery scheduled to hit our stores come November, here's an inside look at the cruise 2016 collection (for both men and women) — as well as candid shots from our trip to the Taiwanese capital — as told through Snapchats.
