With the stairs of the brand's industrial Milan head office turned into a runway... the Z Zegna men's spring/summer 2016 presentation was a rigorous collection inspired by the dynamic sport of kite surfing and, as such, was characterised by bold mariner stripes and aquatic shades of blue and white.
It was an effortless melange... of sophisticated suiting and high-performance sportswear: Zip-up slickers layered under single-breasted blazers, voluminous tech parkas paired with tailored trousers, and urban separates matched with super-light nappa bags finished with a water repellent coating.
There was a weightlessness to the ensembles... due to the flighty kite-inspired volumes and liberal use of 'transparent' layering — a leitmotif of the sheer and light fabrications employed by Stefano Pilati at Ermenegildo Zegna Couture.
An icon of the Z Zegna brand... the pentagon motif was prominently emblazoned across suits, graphicially reinterpreted as a kinetic pattern on tees, and playfully employed on the lining of high-sheen spray jackets.
But our favourite look... was undeniably the knee-length coat in a high-impact mandarin worn with an elongated (and transparent) over-shirt, contrasted against the purity of bleached white trousers and rubberised leather sneakers.
