The collection: For a designer that's constantly racing ahead of his design counterparts towards the digital front, Nicolas Ghesquière's romp with the '80s this spring came as a bit of surprise. But then again, it's practically coded in his DNA to engineer the unexpected. See the metallic crew-neck shift dress accompanied by Jane Fonda poodle hair (look 2) to the flash of chunky yet scuptural gold jewellery (looks 39, 41 & 45) and chapter of mannish tailoring (looks 12 to 14, 18 & 19) — recreated for the 21st century with inflections of Ghesquière sensibilities. Be it the subtle ripple demonstrating fluidity in a stoic, checked overcoat, the cheeky front slit on that grey power suit or, an army of cut-outs on everything from blazers (look 4) to dresses (looks 3, 6 & 11), you know this was Ghesquière's work.

Cruising into spring: Back in May, the designer staged an unforgettable show in Rio de Janeiro, treating his audience to a race ready cruise collection backdropped by the arresting Niteroí Contemporary Art Museum. Bringing that athletic spirit foward for spring and, lest you forget, the two checkerboard cut-out ensembles (looks 6 & 9) seemed to prelude the cruise collection due to enter stores anytime soon.

The accessories: And of course, what would a Louis Vuitton show be without the accessories? This time, it was the seemingly nondescript that had the fashion crowd buzzing. See what the models in looks 2, 10, 18, 21 and more are clutching in their left hands? Petit Malle phone cases. If you've yet to plan ahead for your wardrobe come spring, at least you know what your iPhone 7 will be wearing.

The collection: At Moncler Gamme Rouge, Giambattista Valli was drumming to the French beat with the colours of the nation's flag running through the entire collection. Outerwear was a given. There were blousons, bombers, parkas and coats — occasionally worn around the shoulder like a billowing cape à la cycling jackets (looks 4, 10, 24 & 35). Every look sent down the sandy runway was simple and uncomplicated. Track pants was the trouser of choice. Dresses were mini in length. The best ones were executed in lace and enhanced with floral embroidery (looks 40, 41 & 42).

Something you might have missed:
What looked like waist pouches were actually bags double strapped around the waist (looks 7 & 13). That's one styling trick we're on board with. Plus, no new bag purchase is required. Well, maybe just a new strap.

Those bomber shirtdress hybrids (looks 9 & 34) — a perfect alternative to wearing bomber jackets in our stifling climate.

The collection: There was no better way to end Paris fashion week — and the entire spring season — than on a high note with Miuccia. With Miu Miu's spring/summer 2017 collection, it was hard not to daydream about a poolside vacation while watching the models strut down the runway in bathing suits, pretty summer dresses, and floral appliqué swimming caps — all rendered in retro prints. The apron trend at Prada followed through at Miu Miu, but worn over bloomers instead. While Karl Lagerfeld encourages women to wear their nightwear beyond the bedroom, Miuccia Prada takes it a notch higher. She advocates walking out in your bathrobe (looks 35, 37, 40 & 41) — in this case, made from fur and not in the usual terry cloth material. To complete your pool lounging look, rubber slides or slippers were provided.

Something you might not have known:
Who would have thought shower curtains would make for extremely stylish and practical coats? Talk about an innovative raincoat.

Everyone needs a stylish beach towel stole (designed with armholes) to wipe ourselves down after a dip (looks 29, 30, 36, 44, 48 & 53). If you require something bigger for a better wipe down, check out look 31's terry cloth towel skirt.
