MARC JACOBS: AMERICAN ECCENTRICITY
The collection: The thing with Marc Jacobs is that you never know what he'll pull out of his hat next. From goth to star-spangled patrioticism, the offbeat designer's shows are pretty much a sensory buffet. Issuing the tall order of towering platforms (eight inches, at least) and candy-coloured dreadlocks piled high this SS17, just think of the collection as an Edwardian dinner party meets underground rave scene. Puffed and pointed shoulders in brocade and foil (looks 1, 2 & 5), sheer ruffled negligee (looks 4, 6 & 37) — not unlike Miu Miu's last spring — and enough shine (looks 25, 31 & 45), grunge (looks 26 to 29) and sugary hues (looks 12, 14, 42 & 50) to satisfy any fashion lover's sweet tooth.
Lesson learnt: Just like his fashion campaigns, the American designer has always championed individuality and inclusivity — his seasonal runways a devil-may-care melange of sub-cultures and personalities. Your takeaway? In the baritone of James Bay, "You be you, and I'll be me."
Buro loves: The Mad Hatter battiness of it all. But in particular, the metallic leather topcoats (look 15, 16 & 45) for superhero moments or everyday fabulousness.
