As a general rule of thumb, a golden anniversary appropriates a large-scale bash. But taking a different approach, Bottega Veneta opts for a discreet celebration to mark its 50th year: By heading back to school. Known for its idealisation of the assured women that defies the rose-tinted and youth-saturated vision most designers prefer, the Italian house has surprisingly elected Milan's Academia di Belle Arti di Brera as its inaugural combined runway venue.

"Bottega Veneta is about the creative work of the hand. To celebrate my 15th anniversary, and the 50th of the house, I am happy to stage our show at the Accademia, and to do so in the presence of all the artisans and people who have supported us," creative director Tomas Maier explained.
