Best shows from NYFW FW17 Day 7: Michael Kors and Delpozo
New York Fashion Week
MICHAEL KORS: BACK TO THE (URBAN) JUNGLE
The collection: Drawing from the urbanites of the 1980s, Michael Kors brought to the runways silver lamé (look 25), vivid animal prints (looks 11, 27 & 47) and oversized fur (looks 3, 32 & 41). Along with the clever contrast of masculine-style coats (looks 1 & 16) and tailored dresses (looks 17, 20 & 38), some of Kors' other remarkable pieces included a fuchsia coat (look 53), loose leather pants (look 51) and a little black dress featuring both fringe and sequins (look 63). It also wouldn't be a true reflection of the decade without an emphasised waist. Whether wide (looks 18 & 61) or thin (looks 11, 33 & 62), the additional detail around the middle certainly helped to jazz up the outfit.
Soundtrack: There was no doubt that one of the highlights of the show was the music. Models walked out to the sound of violins, cellos and violas coming together in a beautiful rendition of "Sweet Dreams".
I spy: Ashley Graham, the first plus-size model to walk on a Michael Kors runway.
DELPOZO: SHAPE PARTY
The collection: In a season defined by looser styles and neutral colors, Delpozo's fall/winter 2017 collection switched things up with bright hues, sequins and sharp geometric shapes. Architect-turned-designer Josep Font let tailoring shine with voluminous bow shoulders (look 8), tulip-shaped sleeves (look 1) and criss-crossed collars (look 29). We also adored the futuristic skin-tight hoods, turtlenecks in candy-coloured stripes (look 7), bustier-style tops with metal buckles (looks 16 & 17) and structured pantsuits (looks 5, 16 & 17). Delpozo also went all out to mesmerise — whether in a circle-shaped purse with leaf-shaped sequins (look 6), sparkling stripes (looks 34, 35 & 36) or mermaid-style details on the side of a knit dress (look 22).
Something you might have missed: Flowers made from translucent sequins — they came up as straps (look 36), frontal ornaments (look 33) and recurring details on an intricate gown (look 41).
