Lviv native Yuliya Magdych may not be the first designer to place the traditional Ukranian dress on the international fashion stage, but it sure comes from a place with heart. Dyed in vivid shades that recall the warmth of summer and adorned with intricate, kaleidoscopic embroidery, Magdych's interpretation of the vyshyvanka (the Ukranian embroidered shirt) is reason enough to embrace our eternal summer.

Here, discover the label-of-the-moment with five things to know about Ukraine's latest design star:

1. Magdych was never formally trained in fashion
Instead, the technique of embroidery was passed down through her family. The designer's grandmother would weave textiles whilst her mother embroidered them, and she was eventually taught the art of the skill.

2. She believes in the power of embroidered symbols
Also a manifestation of her rich heritage, Magdych's linen frocks bear traditional Ukranian symbols — motifs that've been passed down by predecessors and are originally illustrations that represent elements of nature. Each symbol, and also the combination of symbols, is said to signify an individual's 'energy'.

3. Her label incorporates modern silhouettes
Designer Vita Kin has been in the spotlight for a few seasons now, also beloved for her vibrant vyshyvanka-inspired frocks and skirts. While Kin's designs are equally beautiful, Magdych not only creates feminine dresses, but also contemporary silhouettes for the modern woman. Suits, jumpsuits and rompers are given the uniquely Ukranian treatment too.

4. She's right on trend with velvet
The range of breezy, linen dresses kindle the hazy days of summer, but Magdych's shimmering velvet pieces are a show-stopping alternative to the evening black dress. Our favourite? This jet-black stunner adorned with glinting gold and silver threads.
