For 50 strong years now, the beloved of skaters, surfers, musicians and, yes, fashion, has given considerable contributions to the zeitgeist. Founded in the suburbs of California by the Van Doren brothers, the brand's heritage line has since seen a myriad of big-named collaborations and starry cameos — as The Pack's record put it, "We be sportin' Vans and we throw away Nikes."
What you should get: The SK8-Hi is the classic you'd want to invest in. Introduced in 1978, the ankle high padded collar was added for supple protection for skaters but now, those sidestripes amplify coolness to uncharted heights.
Best worn with: Be it pairing with jogger pants à la Hadid sisters or good ol' ripped jeans like Alexa Chung, you'd be the bee's knees of the street.
2. ANTISOCIAL SOCIAL CLUB
What you need to know: Enigmatic with Tumblr melancholia, Neek Lurk's indie label rose to cult-like fame in 2015. The air of mystery that surrounds the brand is one that's built upon Lurk's fascination with Japanese culture and self-doubt (the company's Instagram bio says exactly that). Ranging from graphic tees, hoodies to caps with comparable hype to Kylie's lips kits, you can bet Antisocial Social Club isn't going anywhere just yet.
What you should get: Your accessory must-haves include the label's dad hat that has Kanye West and Kim Kardashian giddily signed up.
Best worn with: Rolled-out-of-bed hair, an oversized hoodie and anything slouchy, really.
3. FENTY X PUMA
What you need to know: We all know RiRi is #kween of the streets. So it didn't come as a surprise when Puma appointed her to helm Fenty. Her witchy senses and bad-gal trope have led to the label's disruptive streak of subversive streetwear that ticks oh-so-right with current trends.
What you should get: The fuzzy fur pool slides that ooze athleisure luxe. Also, it doesn't hurt they're as comfy as they look. Adding grey to the current colour options, get your fast fingers ready for its next drop come 7 September.
Best worn with: Slip on white socks for a nab on the season's risqué trend. If you're not up for it, manicured toes and Fenty's ultra long-sleeved sweats are just as good.

4. CHOKED BY A THREAD
What you need to know: Chokers are definitely the new flower crowns, but badass — and the New York label knows just that. Handmade by Lorraine Zalta, the neck adornment varies from delicate lace, Americana bandana, to don't-mess-with-me leather. Among those who are all choked up with Zalta's craft is It-girl Sonia Ben Ammar.
What you should get: Anyone can rock a thin velvet choker, but why not go against the grain and try on the label's tied-up leather affair or the boudoir-ready embroidered lace?
Best worn with: Anything with a low-cut neckline will do the trick. Take down notes from choker-strapped legend Mathilda (Natalie Portman's 12-year-old character in Léon) and throw on a bomber jacket for good measure.

5. GENTLE MONSTER
What you need to know: While this Korean eyewear brand does make waves in the street sphere for its boundary-pushing sunglasses — like the futuristic ones it made for Opening Ceremony — its eye-popping tinted lenses take the cake. The label, helmed by former English teacher Hankook Kim releases 350 to 400 styles in five to 10 colour options made of cellulose acetate, titanium steel or stainless steel frames each year. And these Gentle Monster pairs have been spotted perched on the noses of fashion's unorthodox pack, from the likes of Man Repeller's Leandra Medine to model-cum-street style favourite Irene Kim.
What you should get: The thin framed and bug eye resembling Jumping Jack that comes with pink, yellow, blue or black tinted lenses. Whichever's your poison, sheer is so in.
Best worn with: A bit of throwback to the '70s — flare denims to all things eccentric — and you're off on the right track. Here's to elevating any pared back look to wily nonchalance.
