Where to get colourful pom-pom sandals this summer
With summer right on our heels and Glastonbury just next week, it got us thinking about the embellishment of the moment — pom-poms. Adorned on everything from kaftans to straw bags and even phone covers, pom-poms have now made their way onto gladiator sandals and are officially this summer's footwear of choice.
Forget flower crowns or temporary gold tattoos, the fresh and fun new way to dressing up this summer is lacing up a playful pair of colourful pom-pom sandals and taking your look to the next level. Here's where you can get your hands on a pair:
1. ELINA LINARDAKI
This footwear label is founded by mother-daughter duo, Elina Linardaki and her mother, Beatrice. Handmade in Athens, Greece, the brand's traditional Greek wrap-around gladiators are given a playful twist with embellishments such as friendship macramé, pom-poms and semi-precious stones. The two year-old label also has a bridal collection embroidered with delicate lace, pearls and crystals for boho brides.
2. MABU BY MARIA BK
These statement-making sandals are handcrafted in Greece. Adorned with tassels, pom-poms, and intricate embroidery, every pair is a colourful artwork that's one-of-a-kind. Mabu by Maria BK is exclusively sold on Net-A-Porter.
3. ALAMEDA TURQUESA
Created by mother-daughter team, Ana and Carolina, Alameda Turquesa was first known for its hand made pom-pom bracelets — a favourite with Anna Dello Russo. Looking to push their accessories further, they took their bracelets and translated it onto footwear. Designed and handcrafted in Portugal, each pair takes a minimum of four hours to hand sew the delicate adornments. Not the biggest fan of sandals? You'll be pleased to know that Alameda Turquesa also has lace-up ballerina flats and espadrille wedges that will take you pass summer.
