How Maria Grazia Chiuri's tarot card tribute to Christian Dior is also a feminist statement
Christian Dior's present-day visionary peers into the past to tell the future

Monsieur Dior's supersitions are common knowledge — the lily of the valley and number eight just some of the symbols he considered lucky, frequently indulging these believes by weaving them into his collections. It is also said that the man valued fortune-telling and the insights tarot readings could provide, bringing us to the topic in question: The maison's tarot card cruise 2018 accessory collection.

Although first and foremost a tribute to the house's founder, make no mistake that Maria Grazia Chiuri would leave it as just that. A tribute. As the first woman to join Dior's hallowed ranks of leaders, Chiuri's vision is unapologetically feminist, her designs already known to send out strong messaging about women's rights — overtly and covertly.

This collection is the rule, not an exception. It is through a collaboration with Vicki Noble and Karen Vogel (creators of the Motherpeace Tarot cards for women circa the 1970s) that the artistic director expresses her sentiments this cruise season.

A series of the Dior favourites — namely the Lady Dior, Dioraddict, and J'Adior bags — as well as jumpers, bomber jackets, scarves and footwear bear the motifs and symbols of Noble and Vogel's feminist tarot, carefully embroidered for the lady who holds dear the house's expert craft, her lucky charms, and equality for females.

Available at Christian Dior flagship boutiques and special pop-up stores worldwide, such as The Corner in Berlin and Antonia in Milan.
