Sing Jazz 2018 lineup: Tim De Cotta, MAS1A, weish and The TENG Ensemble added
Sing Jazz 2018 adds Tim De Cotta, MAS1A, weish, The Teng Ensemble and DJs JNR Tirso and Drem in the lineup, along with international names Estelle and Soul II Soul
Back in Singapore for the fifth time, the Singapore International Jazz Festival will take you back to the miseducation of a certain Ms. Hill. It's time to Doo-Wop that thing with Lauryn Hill, who has inspired musicians all over the world, including local names who will be performing. MAS1A, who's opening for Hill on the second night, is ecstatic.
"My first fake ID was to sneak into a Fugees concert at a club to see Lauryn," she exclaims. "I worked in LA for the producer of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and used to stare at the album platinum plaques and Grammy. Now my life has come full circle to return to Singapore and open for one of my heroines! It's a dream come true."
MAS1A last brought her hiphop prowess to Laneway Festival, along with Tim De Cotta who's also joining the Sing Jazz bill. Like MAS1A, De Cotta is also a huge fan of Hill. "She is a big influence in my music and my approach to lyricism and poetry," he gushes, "on top of her immense vocal talent."
weish from the extra-terrestrial-like band .gif is also part of the updated lineup, as well as Chinese instrumental group The TENG Ensemble. DJ JNR Tirso from Lulu Lounge and Choice Cuts Goods + Coffee joins fellow Matteblacc crew Drem as well. Following last year's successful debut, Sing Jazz's club series The Late Show will return for some post-concert fun. Look at the full lineup below.
