Local music goes regional: Michaela Therese and L.A.B in Japan
Homegrown group Listen and Believe (or L.A.B) is fast becoming a regional powerhouse
Here's where to get your soul fix if you're hitting up Tokyo this month. With the vocals of local soul musician Michaela Therese, L.A.B will be performing on 15 and 16 May at venues across the city. If you don't know Therese, she's one of Singapore's pioneering vocalists, one who has been on the music scene for almost 15 years.
It's no wonder that L.A.B's acronym is a play on 'laboratory' — the experimental quartet lets music happen organically. Formed in late 2012, their influences range from neo-soul to jazz and even hip-hop.
You can listen to some of their music here and get the details of their shows in Tokyo, the city hosting the last leg of their 'Elevate' tour in Japan. Stop by Music Bar RPM on 15 May, as well as Electric Jinja the following day. Listen, believe, and get ready for a good night of homegrown music overseas.
