From 8 to 20 March, immerse yourself in fringe events at Singapore Design Week 2016 where you'll learn how to fuse-fire glass, work with a 1,000-degree flame and make your mark
Third time's definitely the charm for Singapore Design Week. Now in its third installment, the week will see designers, architects, artisans, educators, students and enthusiasts get together to celebrate, learn, make and most importantly, bring something home — be it a skill or a product. Organised by the DesignSingapore Council, the main events will take place at the National Design Centre, while other activities are spread out in locations as diverse as Chinatown, Bras Basah, Katong and Macpherson.
If you've always had a heart for glass, Art Glass Solutions have organised three glass making sessions that will see enthusiasts scrambling for seats. For beginners, a fundamental glassmaking session on 12 and 19 March will see 12 participants cutting glass and creating pieces with fuse-firing. For those who like to watch the world burn (in a less evil-sounding way), the flame glassmaking session is right up your alley. To be held on 13 and 20 march, the session will teach participants how to work with hot glass, a more than 1,000-degree Celsius flame and play with colours and techniques — you'll also get to bring your product home. For a higher-intensity session, sign up for the engraving session from 8 to 20 March, where you'll learn how to draw on glass, infilling them to see your own designs in white.
The glassmaking sessions will be held at Art Glass Katong Studio. To sign up, reach out to Art Glass Solutions here.
