Five things to do this weekend: 24 - 26 July
On a roll
ART | Art Day Out! at Gillman Barracks
Art After Dark will see the light of day this weekend. Reinvented as Art Day Out, the nine-hour event will host new gallery shows, film screenings, local design, and a Pasar Malan – a market on Malan Road. You can even take part in Catharsis, a performance art piece by Indonesian artist Syagini Ratna Wulan. Have something to get off your chest? Catharsis gives you the chance to release it, by throwing plates at a wall of written texts.
25 July, 11am to 8pm, at Gillman Barracks. More details here.
THEATRE | The Improv Company Presents: 'Song Bo?' by Les Musicables
You've seen musicals, and you might have seen improv theatre, but the two come together in this hour-long production by Les Musicables. With stellar voices and theatrical talent to boot, you're unlikely to be disappointed. We're also spotting a familiar face among the cast: Jon Cancio, who recently hopped onboard a new podcast with performer (and Friend of Buro) Nathan Hartono.
25 July, 8 to 9pm, at The Improv Company. More details here.
ART | Aliwal Arts Night Crawl: Don't Give Face!
Some things just never get old, and the Aliwal Arts Night Crawl – into its third edition – is one of them. Situated in Kampong Glam, expect a varied scene with a cappella, dance, and just a dash of Chinese opera in the mix. If you're looking for some local buys, an art market in collaboration with The Local People will also be on the scene.
25 July, 5 to 11pm, at Aliwal Arts Centre. More details here.
MUSIC | Garden Beats Festival by Sunshine Nation
Set in the grounds of Fort Canning Park, the Garden Beats Festival is a picnic, electronic music concert, F&B paradise, and social gathering all in one. With restaurants such as Marco Marco on the food, and musicians like Vandetta taking the stage, Garden Beats deserves a place on your weekend roster.
25 July, 1 to 10.30pm, at Fort Canning Park, Fort Gate. More details here.
MUSIC | Eyes To The Front Pool Party
There's no better way to chill in this heat than a pool party in Sofitel So. DJs Stephen Day, Maurice Simon, and Tye West will be at the decks, giving you the smoothest of soundtracks to lounge the day away. An afterparty at Kilo Lounge rounds off the evening; if we were you, we'd get to booking our tables.
25 July, 2 to 10pm, at Sofitel So Singapore. More details here.
