Five things to do this weekend: 18 - 20 December
EXHIBITION | Collider
We'll be honest: If we listed out the things we knew about particle physics, you'd see a pretty blank piece of paper in front of us. That won't stop us from giving the Collider exhibition a visit, and it shouldn't stop you either. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) might be all the way beneath the border between France and Switzerland, but Collider looks to take our senses there, via a mix of theatre, sound, and interactive art – not too shabby.
14 November 2015 - 14 February 2016, at the ArtScience Museum. More details here.
GIG | Silent Night - A Hush Hush Festive Weekend
If the thought of seeing a mass of people dance wildly to the sounds of complete silence is intriguing, you might want to give Mandarin Gallery's lineup of Silent Night events a closer look. Both a Silent Yoga session and a Silent Disco will be held in the mall over the weekend, for the first time. Don wireless headphones and an open mind, as you stretch it out with yoga instructor Liv Lo on Saturday, and keep your head-banging game strong on Sunday, with the POPTART DJs leading the way.
19 December, 9am - 4pm, and 20 December, 12 - 6pm at Mandarin Gallery. More details here.
COMEDY | The Latecomers and Kilo Lounge present: Friendliest Death Match
The Kilo Lounge has played host to some pretty diverse events, from electronic music gigs to flea markets, and the range is about to get bigger. Introducing improv comedy to the space is troupe The Latecomers, with two groups of improvisers engaging in The Friendliest Death Match – a round of comedic competition, if you will. Head down for a night that errs on the unconventional, and have more than a few laughs to mellow out the work week.
19 December, 8pm at Kilo. More details here.
EXHIBITION | Out of Hand, Out of Mind
The feeling of your mind being cluttered or in tangles is sometimes one of the hardest things to explain, but this exhibition visualises the sensation perfectly. Hand-stitched, unspooled arms span the area of The Substation Gallery, with a tangled ball of fabric lying at the end of the room. Out of Hand, Out of Mind is the brainchild of illustrator MessyMsxi, and features numerous other works by her such as digital animation, previously unseen drawings, and hand-made artefacts.
Till 21 December, at The Substation Gallery. More details here.
POP-UP | A Secret Christmas - Naiise
There's nothing more attractive than exclusivity: A speakeasy with a password, a party with a guest list, the bag that's only having a limited run in stores...the list goes on. Naiise is honing in on the trend this Christmas, with a secret – well, now not so secret – pop-up store in Telok Ayer. The second run of its clandestine store series, the brand will be selling everything from gift options to their eclectic F&B offerings. Other innovative features that make this pop-up worth the visit include giveaways, treasure hunts, and the opportunity to 'Pass It On' by writing a note of encouragement to a stranger.
Till 24 December, 11am - 7pm at 167/169 Telok Ayer St. More details here.
