Five things to do this weekend: 1 - 3 Jan
Happy New Year
ART | Sous La Lune/Beneath The Moon
Showcasing largely experimental work by a slew of Southeast Asian and French artists from culturally very different backgrounds, 'Sous La Lune/Beneath The Moon' goes beyond the atypical. Expect an inside look into the creative minds of each artist — a particularly quirky example would be Vivien Roubaud's work of chandeliers inside inflatable balls.
Till 3 February, at Gallery 1, Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore. More details here.
MUSIC | FORWARD feat. BEN UFO (UK) // Donn, Kiat
If you're looking for a night of auditory satisfaction, we'd look no further than club kyo. Responsible for bringing some of the best DJs around to Singapore, this time it's UK lad Ben UFO – or Ben Thomson – at the decks. Known for his lack of a foray into production, he blends together sounds from the old and new.
2 January, 10.30pm at kyo. More details here.
MUSIC | Specific Islander
#SupportLocal. No, seriously. Tropical pop takes centre stage this weekend with local outfit Specific Islander playing their youthful fare at the Esplanade Concourse. With a name like that, we can expect their shoegaze sounds to take us on the mental vacation we seem to constantly need.
3 January, 5.30 and 7pm, at the Esplanade Concourse. More details here.
MUSIC | EP!C PRESENTS W&W
If you've never given trance a chance, Zouk will present you with the perfect opportunity. Made up of Dutchmen DJs Willem van Hanegem and Ward van der Harst, W&W will be serving up their unique brand of trance and electro.
2 January, 11pm at Zouk. More details here.
ART | Time of Others
We know the struggle: One of your New Year's resolutions involves reading books or exploring the city, but you never quite get there. Fear not, for 'Time of Others' is the perfect opportunity to get intellectual, and actually feel stimulated by the experience. A showcase of contemporary art from the Asia Pacific, it's a relevant reflection of the region we live in.
Till 28 February at the Singapore Art Museum. More details here.
