Remembering Avicii: Best emotional moments in music after the DJ's retirement from touring
As dance music mourns the loss of Avicii, we take a look back at 3 of the DJ’s best moments after his retirement from tour
1. Avicii's collaboration with HUMAN, 'GHOST' Although the track was developed a couple of years ago, it was only released in February this year. 'GHOST' marked a significant change for Avicii, who ventured into pop-rock territory with his friend HUMAN (also known as Daniel Adams-Ray). A drum-led anthem with prominent vocals, the song's a great accompaniment to that unsettling, post-break up space of moving on.
2. Avicii's documentary, Avicii: True Stories, by Levan Tsikurishvili For an intimate insight into life as Tim Bergling, watch this documentary by Levan Tsikurishvili, which was released last October. Documenting his career that included the monumental announcement of his retirement from touring in 2016, the film is a collaboration with other music icons such as David Guetta, Wyclef Jean, Nile Rodgers and Chris Martin. Stress, anxiety and illness were major factors that led to the self-proclaimed introvert's retirement, with the documentary beautifully depicting the disconnect between Avicii's private and public life.
3. Avicii's minimal music video, 'You Be Love' Another departure from EDM, Avicii collaborated with rock singer Billy Raffoul on the AVICI EP that was released last August. Directed by TNT, the video's a beautiful, slow dance of the song's message of the very real, volatile emotions Avicii (as with every other human) experiences: Anger, hope, love — and the pressures of handling them all at once.
