#WomanCrushWednesday: Izzy Bizu
Not your typical English rose
Pocketing a BRIT Critics' Choice nomination and her warmly welcomed debut record A Moment of Madness, things have only been going upwards for Izzy Bizu's on-going 2016. You may or may not have recognised her soulful croons from Glastonbury's Park Stage or maybe that splashing H&M summer ad, but either way, this only marks the beginning of the spunky 22-year-old's musical journey.
Bizu discovered her love and knack for songwriting as the friendless new kid on the block writing poems in her primary school's playground. Everything else picked up naturally afterwards: 16 year-old Bizu joined girl band SoundGirl before they briefly flared and fell, and then studied music tech in college, where she met budding French musician Mika Barroux, who later on became her bandmate. But it was winning an open mic night competition that had Emeli Sandé and Naughty Boy nodding in approval amongst the crowd which led to her first EP, Coolbeanz, and tour with Sam Smith as his concerts' opening act. Soon after Bizu's peppy disco-funk of White Tiger and dusty retro-soul of Diamond were released, she won over millions' hearts and the rest is history.
With scats comparable to Paloma Faith's and falsettos to Candi Staton's, it's hard to imagine Izzy Bizu doing anything else other than what she's passionately doing right now — but below are 5 things she might just dabble in if the singing thing doesn't work out for her (which we are fully aware is impossible):
1. Taking up Muay Thai
2. Corner-hooking some pool balls
3. Hula-hooping in festivals
4. Starring in a frizzy Pantene ad
5. Living the "sk8r gurl" life
