In a sea of new artists, album launches and festivals, it feels like the musical floodgates are constantly open – in a good way. We're loving the SG50-fuelled spotlight on local music, and this time, it's on indie rock. In commemoration of the Bukit Timah constituency's 60th year, the Bukit Timah Community Club (BTCC) is launching the very first TinHill Rockfest.

Eight hours of homegrown indie rock await: from Charlie Lim to Caracal, it's an expansive genre to explore, and we're all for it. TAJ (The Astral Journey) and Anechois are some of our favourites: Formed in 2012, TAJ is a trio made up of Tim De Cotta, Teo Jia Rong (both of local outfit L.A.B), and Audrey Tengkey. Soul, hip hop, jazz, and more influences meld together, giving off a vibe that's uniquely theirs. Here's Taj Yo'self for a sampler.

The post-rock sounds of household name Anechois are also on our radar for the inaugural festival. If you like Explosions in the Sky, they're the band for you.

TinHill Rockfest will be on 29 August, from 3pm till midnight. More details here.
