At 18, Diane Lane was already a busy young lady. The then-recent high school graduate had already starred in 10 films — one co-starring Sir Lawrence Olivier (A Little Romance) and two directed by Francis Ford Coppola (The Outsiders and Rumble Fish). She had also appeared on the cover of Time in 1979 as one of Hollywood's "Whiz Kids", and was dubbed "the new Grace Kelly".
Appearing on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show in 1983 to promote her movie Rumble Fish, Lane was dressed simply in an LBD and a wavy lob hairstyle popular at that time. Though the youngster let out a few awkward giggles and shrugs, the fresh-faced beauty oozed confidence and sex appeal even at such an age — clearly a star in the making.
In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice to be released in theatres tomorrow, the now 51-year-old reprises her role as Clark Kent's mother, Martha. She joins Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in a story where the two leads are at war with one another.
But before you catch the Unfaithful star in her maternal warmth, watch her younger self share about her humble 18th birthday celebration and her Playboy Playmate mother Colleen Farrington.
