As The Brothers Grimsby unleashes another character created by the irreverence that is Sacha Baron Cohen, we look back on our three favourite moments from the comedian's first character: Interviewer extraordinaire, Ali G
1. When he made a speech at Harvard Commencement 2004
Showing up in tinted goggles, jeweled chains, a red beanie and tracksuit, the Cambridge alumni — he graduated with upper second class honours — was a Class Day speaker at Harvard University. Only Cohen could make such a speech work brilliantly — while the dim-witted character of Ali G still tried to be all gangster, he did manage to touch on issues such as sex, drugs, race relations and higher education in his satirical nature. And what an exit — he ended up being handcuffed by a Harvard University Police Department officer.
2. When he interviewed Posh and Becks in 2001
Remember when Victoria and David Beckham were just Posh and Becks? The young couple voluntarily signed up for a 10-minute interview for Comic Relief, where Ali G drilled them on their personal and professional lives. The interview had Posh Spice in tears, while the then England captain kept bowing his head down in disbelief. From the interview, it was clear that the missus wore the pants in this interview, while David just sat back and allowed her to deal with the punches. There was even a mention of Burberry favourite Brooklyn, who Ali G referred to as "a little nipper". Find out where he was really conceived below.
3. When he shared his business idea with Donald Trump, pre-election
While Donald Trump makes an appearance in the The Brothers Grimsby, Cohen's first brush with the republican presidential frontrunner was back in 2003, when he interviewed him for less than a minute. Ali G's interviewed many political and business figures in the past — the likes of Mohamed Al-Fayed, John McCain and Boutros Boutros-Ghali — but Trump's no-nonsense stance when proposed with a business idea of an ice-cream glove takes the cake.
