#ManCrushMonday: Jussie Smollett
The Empire strikes back
Jussie Smollett joins the long line of celebrities who've denounced Donald Trump: Shakira, Bryan Cranston, Matt Damon, Lady Gaga, Louis C.K. and George Clooney, to name a few. It comes as no surprise — the Brazilian-born actor-musician grew up in an activist family, and is currently actively involved in numerous charities and organisations. Named by the Black AIDS Institute as one of the 30 artists under 30 making a difference, he also sits on the Board of Artists for a New South Africa.
Smollett's definitely easy on the eyes, and he's been using his growing fan base to reach out to his fellow Americans. He's been particularly vocal about Trump, who's in the running for President of the United States in this year's election — something even Clooney isn't taking seriously. Trump's been called a misogynist and racist among other things, with Smollett also sharing his choice of words in a recent interview with Huffington Post: "Truly one of the worst people that has ever walked the face of this planet. I can't talk about him without getting heated and I get so emotional about it."
Here are some of Smollett's most vocal tweets about the presidential candidate — and some of our favourites.
If people of all races, religions, cultures & sexualities would join 2 make LOVE be their business then no Mogul of Hate like Trump can lead.— Jussie Smollett (@JussieSmollett) March 2, 2016
Keep saying Trump won't win but unless we get up & get our asses out to vote...This will be a catastrophe unexplainable to our children.— Jussie Smollett (@JussieSmollett) March 2, 2016
His intent is in fact exactly what it has become. There is no getting around that fact. Check the receipts people. https://t.co/aaNGANRPNy— Jussie Smollett (@JussieSmollett) March 2, 2016
Take him down, Jamal.
