Buro 24/7 Singapore at The Co.: Our favourite spots in Duxton
We've been pretty spoilt ever since our move to The Co. last December. Not only are the new digs making work even more enjoyable (we love our jobs, honest!), The Co's newest outlet is smack in the hip hood of Duxton. While our main office at Tanjong Pagar road was just a two-minute walk away, that extra time has been put to good use — whether it's to order an iced white from the guys at MavRx, a pre-drink taco at Lucha Loco or a quick literary pick-me-up from Littered With Books. In the first part of our digital co-working story series with The Co., we thought we'd recommend our favourite haunts when we're not at our desks.
Littered With Books
20 Duxton Road
"I love the idea of having a bookstore just round the corner. Littered with Books is cosy, but well-curated with an excellent selection of children's books that are perfect for my three-year old daughter. It's a great place to pick up gifts for children and they also have book readings for kids. I've also seen some interesting books for adults such as titles by Marisha Pessl. I know it's easy to buy books off Amazon and Book Depository, but there's something to be said for browsing in a physical bookstore — leafing through the pages of titles, getting recommendations and interacting with other book lovers — that can never replace the online experience." — Renée Batchelor, beauty editor
21 Tanjong Pagar Road
"While it's technically not in the Duxton enclave, it's just a hop, skip and a jump away. We've been patiently waiting for these guys to re-open since we heard rumours of their new home being just two minutes away. In fact, we've even snuck a peek while they were still in construction. A few of us headed down for their official opening in mid-December where we congratulated Javier, Sharon and the team. This is where the sound of the undergound is, and it starts the moment you enter the graffiti-splashed entrance of a back lane, wind yourself through the passageways as the beats enticingly draw you further in." — Adibah Isa, culture editor
Praelum Wine Bistro
4 Duxton Hill
"Happy Hour for me doesn't take the form of an ice-cold pint of beer. After a long day at work, nothing beats winding down over a glass of red wine, and the guys over at Praelum Wine Bistro — located on the same stretch of shophouses as The Co. — makes it too easy for me to indulge in a glass or two. Their cellar, stocked with over 1,000 bottles of wines, is impressive, but what I usually turn to is their rotating selection of wines, stored in the state-of-the-art Enomatic wine preservation system. Keen to discover a flight of wines? Call for the 25ml tasting portion. Love it? Go for a full pour. There's always a new favourite to love here." — Denise Kok, senior lifestyle editor
MavRx Coffee Apothecary
1A Duxton Hill
"MavRx has been my go-to coffee place since we first started up at Tanjong Pagar, so when we moved into The Co. on Duxton Road — right beside MavRx — the following was inevitable. One cup of iced white coffee every morning to get the system going. Although it's pretty much a grab-and-go establishment with just a small outdoor seating area, baristas Nick and Ace will let you stay as long as you need, and never fail to ask you how's your day. Up for a coffee and chat? Just pop by before 4.30pm and you're in good hands." — Andrea Sim, fashion stylist/writer
43 Tanjong Pagar Road
"Sprucing up the neighbourhood a road down from Duxton, this all-day establishment — brought to you by Zachary De Git and Peter Chua from Proof & Company — is totally slated to be the new IT spot for all your brunch and caffeine break powwows. With everything from (healthy) comfort food to cocktails and craft beer, what's not to like? I've told myself to head there soon for a pick-me-up any day. Not to mention the people-watching opportunities, with everyone from OLs to hipsters streaming in." — Angelyn Kwek, writer
15 Duxton Hill
"It's not always easy for find a place with amazing food, equally good drinks, and an ambience to match. Lucha Loco nails all three, with its location and design being just as good as the food offered. Cocktails are original and ingredients are always fresh, maintaining the restaurant's reputation. It's perfect for your fix of Mexican food, whether it's the bite-sized tacos or tostadas. I love the garden bar setup, which works well throughout the day too — but most of the time, it's a convenient place to pop in after work for a night out with friends." — Meera Navlakha, editorial intern
