Celebrating Alien Day with Sigourney Weaver, a.k.a. iconic heroine Ellen Ripley from Alien
26 April isn't just any other day in the calendar for science fiction fans. It's officially Alien Day, celebrated the world over for Ridley Scott's cinematic masterpiece. Even though the 1986 action sequel — Aliens — takes place on a colonial moon called Acheron, it was previously known as LV-426... April 26.
As the acclaimed filmmaker returns with a new chapter for the Alien franchise with Alien: Covenant, 26 April will see the release of a new Alien VR experience as well as the return of the 1979 classic to select theatres worldwide. It'll also see the return of Sigourney Weaver to the screen. As Ellen Ripley, the heroine has appeared in all four films: Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection.
In Scott's upcoming tale, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers a dangerous, remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, as they attempt to escape from a huge threat. Alien: Covenant will star Katharine Waterston, Michael Fassbender, Demián Bichir, Danny McBride and Noomi Rapace. Closer to home, the MINT Museum of Toys will run a pop-up exhibition from 27 April to 28 May with a display of Alien memorabilia and limited edition collectibles.
Alien: Covenant will be released in local theatres from 10 May. For last week's #WomanCrushWednesday, click here.
