#BuroLive Episode 6: How to buy art with Phunk Studio
It's been a hectic week for art lovers and collectors, but it's not like we're complaining. Culture enclaves such as Bras Basah, Aliwal Street, Gillman Barracks and Marina Bay Sands are teeming with activity, from LOCK ROUTE, Aliwal Urban Art Festival, Art After Dark and State of Motion happening this weekend. Talk about timeliness — a new year sees change as well, and if you've always been one to talk about getting into the art scene, Art Stage Singapore's a good place to start. With works under $1,000 all the way up to $150,000, the fair's happening right in our own backyard with artists near and dear to us.
One of them's Alvin Tan from Phunk Studio, a contemporary art and design collective also made up of other fellow Singaporeans Melvin Chee, Jackson Tan, and William Chan. This fair's edition sees them showcasing a more than seven-metre-long mural, 'New Hope Of An Old World'. They're also showing four smaller pieces titled 'Hope', 'Rock', 'Kiss' and 'Live'. Known for their branding and design work with Gillman Barracks, Violet Oon as well as fashion outfits Nike and Comme des Garçons, the boys often merge Chinese mythology, Western pop culture and Japanese manga.
