What do the watering holes of Loof, Tanjong Beach Club, OverEasy and The Powder Room have in common? They're part of the brainchild that is The Lo & Behold Group, responsibly ensuring pleasure in their little pockets of F&B and hospitality outlets. To celebrate the group's 11th birthday this year, they've introduced a new concept that'll attempt to strengthen Singapore's creative scene: Looksee Looksee, a 25-seater reading room that doubles as a tea salon.
Teaming up with local tea-makers A.muse Projects, Looksee Looksee is a platform to showcase local brands on the rise. Alongside A.muse Projects are furnishing brand Scene Shang (who we visited a few months ago) as well as design house Supermama (who just released a new set of ceramics). Located in the lobby of their spanking new shophouse office in Kampong Glam, the reading room's open to the public to use as a casual meeting spot and for some R&R.
If Wes Anderson had a lounge to escape in, this would be it. Designed by John Lim and OWMF Architecture, the four-arch concrete entrance welcomes you immediately to a space that warms the soul with its soft pastels and earthy accents in plants and hues. Grab a title from the library, which reflects a meeting of minds from industry insiders such as Cynthia Chua (Fashionable Selby by Todd Selby), Priscilla Ong Shunmugam (Cheongsam in Singapore: A Social History, 1920s-Present by Chor Chin Lee), Julien Royer (Bras; Laguiole, Aubrac, France by Michel Bras) and Bjorn Shen (Artichoke: Recipes & Stories from Singapore's Most Rebellious Kitchen by Bjorn Shen).
You'll also get to have a peek at The Lo & Behold Group's office. It's a far cry from their first ever office located in the basement of Odeon Towers. From a 30 square meters space with no windows, the brand has moved on to occupy three shophouses. We're already coveting the pantry's wall art — which is actually a woven blanket by Los Angeles-based artist, BFGF. Did someone say #officegoals?
